The Salvattion Army Hadleigh Temple Corps Masthead

How to find us

Corps Building

The corps building is quite easy to find. It is on the south side of the main A13 road from London to Southend approximately 20 miles east of the junction with the M25 (Dartford Tunnel).

If you prefer proper directions:

From the west (London):

Driving eastwards on the A13 from the M25, it's 17 miles before you meet a roundabout - and what a roundabout! It's a big one that you can go round both ways and has smaller satellite roundabouts. It's called Sadlers Farm.

You can either turn right onto this big roundabout and go through two more smaller roundabouts before continuing on the A13, or turn left onto the big roundabout and negotiate three smaller roundabouts. In either case you will be leaving on the A13 signposted South Benfleet (the road gets narrower here).

From the north (Chelmsford):

Take the A130 towards Southend, Basildon, or Canvey Island. About 12 miles south of Chelmsford you'll come to the (complex) Sadlers Farm roundabout described above, which is the junction with the A13 at which you turn left (signposted South Benfleet). Then follow as below.

This road will take you through an urban area. Continue for about another 3 miles (including up a steep hill); you will come another (proper) roundabout with a clock in the middle. This is Victoria House Corner. Take the second exit (straight on) and the corps hall is about 300 yards on the right opposite Morrison's supermarket car park; you might see the flag as you approach it. As this is a sort of dual carriageway, keep to the right-hand lane, you'll have to drive a little past the hall to turn round in the slip road in front of the old fire station in order to get access.

The entrance to the car park is just beyond the white cottages next to the hall.

From the east (Southend):

There's not much east of where we are. Just follow the London Road (A13) out of Southend towards London. You'll see the hall a couple of hundred yards or so after you hit the one way system with McDonalds. If you reach the roundabout with a clock in the middle, you've gone too far!

If you are coming from the south, then you'll first need to find somewhere to moor your boat!! Sorry, we can't help you with that!

By Public Transport

The nearest railway station is Benfleet which on the c2c line (London Fenchurch Street to Shoeburyness). When you leave the station there is a taxi rank on the north side of the tracks (the side that trains come in from London). Expect to pay £8-9 fare to Hadleigh (more on Sundays). Alternatively, on the other side of the railway line by the river are bus stops. Cross the road and catch a bus that goes to Hadleigh Church (beware: some don't, so you'll have to ask or read the information on the stop).

Get off the bus at Hadleigh Morrison's (it's the first stop after the Hadleigh bus depot.) The hall is ahead of you to the right, but you will need to walk back a few steps to cross the road safely on the crossing.

Should you be coming from Southend by bus, the most convenient stop is outside the former fire station (first stop after Hadleigh Church).
