Flag in memory of Moreen Mallinson

“THE last time I took Moreen shopping at Morrisons, she looked across the road and commented that the flag flying outside the Army hall had seen better days,” Ron Mallinson recalls. It was a comment that he did not forget. Not long after that, Moreen was promoted to Glory and Ron decided that rather than have flowers that will wither, he asked mourners at the funeral to contribute towards a new flag in Moreen's memory. Aware that in daily use a flag takes some punishment, the family added to the funds to obtain a flag that was stronger and has an anti-fray edging to extend its longevity.
On the 14th September 2008, Ron presented the flag to the corps on behalf of the family. He said a flag was important because it shows the corps is active. He drew parallels with the royal standard, which flies over a palace when the queen is in residence and a ship's ensign, which is flying when it is in service but is removed when it comes into dock for repair.
In dedicating the flag, commanding officer Major Stuart Dicker prayed that it would be used in attracting people to the corps and to God.
